CCG decision-making to be held in public

Thursday 22nd June, 2017

Improvements have been agreed to the way the CCG makes decisions about local health services in Coastal West Sussex.

At an extraordinary Governing Body: Assurance meeting on Tuesday 20 June 2017 a number of proposed changes to the CCG’s Constitution were agreed.

In particular, the changes include a proposal to refresh the key governance meetings of the organisation so that a single Governing Body replaces the two level structure of the Governing Body: Assurance and the Governing Body: Clinical Commissioning Executive.

Prior to this decision the CCE would meet monthly to make decisions on the organisation’s work and the future of local health care, and the Governing Body: Assurance would meet quarterly in public to assure the work of the CCG.

Going forward a single Governing Body will hold formal meetings in public six times a year.

Changes include:

  • A single Governing Body replaces the two level structure of the Governing Body: Clinical Commissioning Executive and Governing Body: Assurance
  • Locality Directors (GP representatives) and Lay and Independent Clinical Members are full voting members
  • There will be a new committee of the Governing Body, the Clinical Innovation and Strategy Committee that will identify and drive forward a clinical transformation programme aligned to our vision for Accountable Care in Coastal West Sussex.

The recommendations were made as part of a detailed Governance Review that was completed earlier this year and aim to simplify and strengthen our governance.

The new Governing Body is comprised of:

  • The Chair
  • Six Locality Directors
  • Three Lay Members
  • Independent Clinical Member – Secondary Care (clinical)
  • Independent Clinical Member – Registered Nurse (clinical)
  • Accountable Officer
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Clinical Director
  • Non-voting members include a representative from the LMC and from West Sussex Public Health

The new arrangements will come into effect immediately, with the first formal meeting in public under the new arrangements taking place on 25 July 2017.

Future meeting dates: 26 September, 28 November, 23 January 2018 and 27 March 2018.
