Surrey and Sussex Proud to Care Award winners announced

The winner's of this year’s NHS Surrey and Sussex Proud to Care Public Choice Awards have been announced.

Patients, their families, carers and members of the public nominated a total of 109 individuals and teams for the awards, for exceptional care that they or someone close to them received.

Julia Dutchman-Bailey, Director of Nursing and Quality for NHS England (Surrey and Sussex) said:

"The Proud to Care Awards are given to those who have gone the extra mile and delivered exceptional care across Surrey and Sussex.  All winners and runners-up should be immensely proud of themselves - this is a fantastic achievement and one they should be rightly proud of."

The event also rewarded individuals and teams who excelled in the ‘6C’ Core values, of care, courage, competence, compassion, communication and commitment.

Care Awards

Individual Award:

  • Winner - Sophie Biss, Neuro ITU Junior Sister, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Runners-up - Trisha Keith, Specialist Woman’s Health Adviser, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Runners-up - Helena Stevenson, Ward Manager, Albourne Ward, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Team Award:

  • Winner - The care team at St Vincent’s Residential Home, Bexhill on Sea.
  • Runners-up - The team on Grove Ward at the Harold Kidd Unit, Chichester, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - The Neuro ITU team, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Courage Awards

Individual Award:

  • Winner - Michelle Harris, Sister, Ashling Ward, Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - Clare McGregor, Head of Nursing, emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Runners-up - Tracey Nelson, Junior Sister, Tilford Ward, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Team Award:

  • Winner - The Filipino Nurses’ team, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Competence Awards

Individual Award:

  • Winner - Sarah Randall, Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - Dr Renate Pantke, Consultant Psychologist, Severe Eating Disorders Consultation and Assessment Service, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - Kim Cheetham, Matron for Surgery, Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Team Award:

  • Winner - The Respiratory Nursing Team, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - The Midwifery Patient Safety Team, Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Runners-up - Site Practitioner and Trauma Co-ordination Team, Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Compassion Awards

Individual Award:
