NHS Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is delighted to announce the award of a contract for an integrated Musculoskeletal care service to BupaCSH Ltd -  a partnership between CSH Surrey and Bupa UK.

The new service will offer a more joined-up health system for patients that is focused on achieving the best possible patient outcomes, but will also reduce bureaucracy and speed up the patient journey.

The procurement process has focused on improving the experience of MSK patients in the Coastal West Sussex area.

Clinical Chief Officer of NHS Coastal West Sussex CCG, Dr. Katie Armstrong, commented: “Our new partner impressed the evaluation panel by continuously demonstrating that the patient will be at the centre of everything they put in place. I am confident that once bedded in the new service will quickly deliver excellent quality and value and am encouraged that as we do, the provider will see their patients as partners in their care going forward.”

It is expected that the five-year contract will be signed at the start of October and will have a fixed financial envelope which is expected to be in the region of £235m.

The contract signing will be followed by a three month period during which the new service will be mobilised – ready for a January 2015 start.

Further information:

  • Musculoskeletal pain is the most frequently reported health complaint  - with at least 50% of the population reporting pain for at least one week in a month.
  • The MSK service treats over 150 MSK diseases and syndromes.
  • The current service means patients are referred between many organisations and seems disjointed to patients as it has grown over a number of years to offer additional services
  • Under the new service patients will be referred to one single team, with whom they would work to manage their care.
  • The new service will also offer a one-stop shop approach in multiple settings across the CCG area.
  • Most importantly the new service will introduce patient-driven care plans, giving patients more opportunity to manage their care in the way that suits them best.
  • Bupa CSH Ltd, is a 50:50 joint venture between Bupa UK and CSH Surrey. The joint venture enables Bupa and CSH Surrey to bring their complementary skills and expertise together to benefit patients through integrated and high quality healthcare.
  • CSH Surrey - an innovative employee-owned  community and acute healthcare, and Bupa, a global healthcare leader with no shareholders, share similar values and are focussed on providing excellent healthcare to patients.
