Worthing Hospital novel coronavirus update

Wednesday 12th February, 2020

All services at Worthing Hospital, including surgery and outpatient appointments are operating normally following confirmation that a healthcare worker working in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Unit at Worthing Hospital tested positive for coronavirus (2019-nCov).

They treated a small number of patients on 4thand 5th February before they became unwell, followed advice and self-isolated.

Public Health England (PHE) is contacting all patients seen by this individual and all colleagues who came into close contact with them, to advise on the precautions they need to take.

The hospital is also following PHE guidance to minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

While all services remain open, we ask the public to help minimise pressure on A&E services by using alternative options for treatment of non-emergency conditions whenever possible.

Anyone who is concerned can contact NHS 111 for advice. Please do not attend A&E if you are experiencing symptoms.

Everyone is reminded to follow PHE advice:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
